Instruction to Authors

Guidelines for manuscript preparation and submission

Authors are invited to read this notice before preparing the typescripts (TS). TS should be emailed to the Editorial Board Secretariat at sjubarah@yahoo.co.uk or albongo_1@yahoo.com.

Copyright and Originality

Authors will be notified of receipt. All papers are scrutinized by referees. Submission of a paper to this Journal implies that it represents original work not previously published, not being considered for publication elsewhere, and that if accepted by the Journal, it will not be published without the written consent of the Editor-in-Chief. All papers accepted become copyright of the Journal. The Journal takes no responsibility for returning unaccepted manuscripts.

Typescript Requirements

Typescript should be in English. Type ALL material (abstract, text, reference list, tables and illustration captions) double-spaced on A4 page size. Leave 3.5 cm margins on all sides. Send it including illustrations.

Abstract

The paper should include an English abstract immediately after author(s) names and affiliation. The abstract should summarize the main facts and conclusions of the paper and be understandable in isolation. It should not exceed 250 words.

Formatting Guidelines

  • Do not underline ANY words except:
    • Names of new chemical compounds the first time they are mentioned
    • Latin names of genera and species
  • Do not underline headings
  • In case of Latin names, the authority should be given once when first mentioned
  • Use the numeric system and standard abbreviations
  • Never repeat the same materials in tables and figures
Tables
  • Tables should be numbered in Arabic numerals according to their sequence in the text
  • Each table should be accompanied by a brief self-explanatory title
  • Any explanation essential for understanding should be given as a footnote at the bottom
  • Each table should be typed double-spaced on a separate page
  • Larger bodies of data should not be presented
  • Data should preferably be presented in graphical form wherever possible

Statistical Significance

The single (*), double (**) and triple (***) asterisk should be used to indicate statistical significance at 0.05, 0.01 and 0.001 levels respectively.

Graphs, Photos and Illustrations

Graphs

Graphs should be drawn using Microsoft Excel software and a copy of the graph and its data should be submitted together via www.cnres-uoj.com.

Illustrations

  • Must be of high quality suitable for direct reproduction
  • Number all illustrations consecutively
  • Include a scale where required
  • Type captions for all illustrations double-spaced on a separate sheet
  • Each caption should contain sufficient explanation to be meaningful

Line Drawings

  • Should not exceed 21 x 28 cm
  • Lettering should be professional quality and appropriately sized
  • Typewritten lettering in figures is not acceptable

Photographs

  • Black and white high quality glossy original prints
  • Maximum contrast, not exceeding 13 x 18 cm
  • Highest resolution
  • Indicate scale on the photograph
  • Send three sets of ORIGINAL photographs
References

Citation in Text

Citations should take the form: Peter and Grace (1992) or Odra (1999). When referring to a work by more than two authors, give the name of the first author followed by et al. More than one work by the same author(s) in the same year should be identified by letters a, b, c etc., following the year of publication.

Citations of personal communication and unpublished data should be avoided. If inevitable, such citations should appear in the text only, as (M. S., Ladu, personal communication) and not in the reference list.

Reference List Format

References should be arranged alphabetically, typed double-spaced:

For Journals:

Author, Year, Title, Journal, Volume, Page(s)

Example: Peter, A. A. M., and Grace, J., 1992. Acclimation to drought in Acer pseudoplatanus L. seedling. Journal of Experimental Botany, 43, 1591-1602.

For Books:

Author, Year, Title, Editor, Publisher, City, Page(s)

Example: Nobel, P. S., 1991. Physicochemical and Environmental Plant Physiology. Academic Press, New York.

Proof and Offprints
  • One set of proofs will be sent to the corresponding author for checking
  • Offprints of the paper will be supplied free of charge
  • Additional copies can be purchased if ordered when proofs are returned
  • Prices will be indicated on the order form

Failure to comply with any of the above instructions will normally lead to delay of or declining the publication of the article.
